Fall 2019 Day 3

Today was a rainy day. It’s getting warmer, which is great, but it rained and was getting worse as the day went on. Fortunately it’s supposed to end overnight because tomorrow it’s supposed to be around 70*!  So we decided to try and do our indoor things today. We walked to a coffee shop that’s supposed to be really great and it’s also a few doors down from the one of the best patisseries in Lyon. The coffee shop was a cool looking place with a lot of options and we had high hopes. I had a double espresso and Emily had a chai latte. It was disappointing!  Not to sound arrogant, but ours is WAY better!!  We probably could’ve just gotten coffee at the patisserie and it would’ve been better, it was lavazza, we typically love their coffee but maybe tomorrow, who knows. The patisserie was amazing!  Beautiful pastries!  Very well executed and fantastic stuff. Great croissant and a great almond croissant also. I personally like ours more but this was right there!!  We got a delicious coconut cake that we are going to try and replicate when we get home and we also got a pizza-like piece of bread with cheese, bacon and onions because Emily is a savory girl where I am in my element with sweets! We walked down the street to a beautiful square, called Place des Jacobins. There is a Beautiful fountain in the middle and just a ton of charm. We found a bench and had a breakfast picnic in this beautiful spot. It was wonderful!  That’s how to start a day!  It started raining right after that so we walked about a half a mile further to the Lyon art museum. It was a very nice museum in an old converted Abbey. It had a huge collection of art from great Egyptian sarcophagi and hieroglyphs all the way up to modern art with everything in between. I find museums that have so much stuff can be exhausting. Especially when you try to find the “gems” through it all, that’s a lot of walking and mental work. It was a long visit but there was definitely some worthwhile masterpieces. We left and it was pouring rain!  We walked back to the patisserie we stopped at before and bought a fresh baguette and some dessert and made the decision to put together dinner on our way home instead of going out. We bought some local cheese, salume, wine all from this region and put it together with some nice pasta and sauce we had recommended to us from the cheese monger we visited. We had an early dinner, at least by European standards, showered and then enjoyed our delicious desserts! We had Tart au Praline, a specialty of Lyon with its pink praline filling it was absolutely delicious!  We also finished up our bottle of Crozes-Hermitage red wine with a Tart Tatin, upside down apple pie, and a piece of Gateux Chcolate, chocolate cake.   Emily occasionally makes a Gateux Chocolate and I think hers is better, but it was delicious! All in all a pretty relaxing day which was needed, we have a lot coming up and we have to be ready!  Thanks for caring!  We love you all and miss our puppy!!!
