Fall 2019 Day 6

Today is our last day in Beaune. Tomorrow morning we head back to Paris!  That’s always a great thing to say!  Today we had a very relaxing day, Beaune is a very sleepy town on Sunday. Most restaurants and shops are closed so there isn’t much to do. We will keep that in mind for the future. But we did manage to have a wonderful, fulfilling day nonetheless. We woke up and went to the little patisserie we went to yesterday because what we had there yesterday was really good. We weren’t disappointed!  Emily had a savory Gougeres, a cheese puff that’s right up her alley. I had 2 croissants. They were two of the better croissants I’ve had!  Very flaky, crispy and buttery. Emily had some too and we agreed. That was a first rate croissant. We went hunting for a grocery store. Every town we have ever been to has them all over the place. Here you have to leave the city walls and find a larger supermarket type store to shop. All we typically buy is apple juice, France has amazing apple juice, CHEAP!  Bottles of water, a 1.5 liter bottle is like $.40 here. Why do we charge so much for a small bottle in America?!?  We also will occasionally buy Nespresso capsules for the machines in our apartments or the occasional toiletry. Not worth walking that far for but we didn’t have a choice. We came back, dropped it off in our room and then went out exploring.  We haven’t been to the local church yet, so we decided to explore there. It was very nice with some interesting faded frescoes and beautiful tapestries, but it wasn’t among the finest we have seen. Still, they’re always fascinating. After that, I had made an appointment for a wine class!  It was just Emily and I in a private class with a wonderful woman from a company called Sensation Vin. French wine is very confusing and Burgundy wine is a perfect example of the difficulty in picking out a wine here. We learned SO much today. We learned that no matter how much you know, you will never know much unless you taste it! But, we learned clues to help guide us. It was a great experience!  We even figured out, with some help, what wine to drink with the dinner we made tonight!  We made our Bresse chicken with potatoes and green beans. We overcooked our chicken horribly!  What a bummer!  We still did our best to enjoy it and we liked the potatoes and green beans a lot!!  The wine was fantastic!!  That’s our day today. We now have to pack up again and get ready for Paris!  It’s always a rush to get there!  We have a big day ahead of us so we will keep you posted. Have a wonderful day and thanks for reading!
