Day 10- Angels Among Us!

We started the day in Mont St-Michel.

We woke up early, had breakfast 🍳 on our patio and watched the sun rise. We fed a big bunch of birds while we were eating too so we had LOTS of company for our meal. It was really nice.

We were 1st in line for entrance at the abbey this morning and got a wonderful visit. It's beautiful and it's history is fascinating.

To build something in such a difficult place over 1200 years ago is a huge feat. And to end up enlarging it to what it is today is just plain cool!!!

We were done at around 11:30 in the morning and left only to realize, because its Armistice Day in France today, there aren't the usual connections to get to where we wanted to end up tonight. We were looking to go to Dinan, Brittany, but it was really starting to look difficult!! We were even going to maybe take a taxi the 2 hour journey just so we didn't have to sit around waiting all day and possibly miss our hotel reservation. While we were waiting and trying to figure out what our next step would be, we went to our 1st patisserie in the area.

They had Kouign Amman and Breton Cakes and all the things we make at our store.

That was exciting, but still a little tempered by our current dilemma of how are we going to get to Dinan!

ANGELS AMONG US!

The girl who waited on us at the patisserie spoke just a tiny bit of English. We asked her about a taxi to get to Dinan, or at least the nearest city that has a decent size train station to get us the rest of the way there. She said, I'll drive you there if you can wait 30 minutes until I get off work!! We were stunned!!!!
But then, out of the blue, an angel appeared!!
Who would be so kind and generous! She was willing to drive us the whole 2 hours to Dinan. We couldn't have her do that so we had her take us to a city called Dol in Brittany that had the connections we needed. She took us there and didn't even want money for it!!! We paid her 40 euro anyways. It would've cost a lot more to take that taxi so it was SO worth it!! We didn't even ask her her name!! How crazy is that. She had to express her disgust with America for electing Trump, of course. Something we have heard from virtually every French person we have talked to since the election. They are really afraid and they have an election in a year and worry about what will happen to them when that takes place. Will it be like America and Great Britain? But she was our true saint! Someone we will never forget! It just goes to show, if we all treat each other with kindness the world will be a wonderful place!!!

We got our train to Dinan and checked in to the Hotel Arvor, which is gorgeous and in a beautiful location! This is a very cool city!

Can't wait to explore it all tomorrow and eat crepes, Breton Cakes and Kouign Amman until we are sick!!!! LOL.
We went to a place for dinner called Le Cantorbery about 50 feet from our hotel. It had great reviews on TripAdvisor and it was Rick Steves favorite place here in his guidebook. We both agree, OUR BEST MEAL OF THE TRIP SO FAR!!!!!

She loved the appetizer!
Emily had a delicious appetizer called a Mille Fuille, which is layers of ingredients, hers was artichokes with crab meat all surrounded by a strip of zucchini.
Heaven!

Then we both had filet of beef cooked over an open fire with a very peppery bernaise sauce. SO good!!

 DESSERT TIME!
For dessert Emily had a white chocolate mouse over cherry compote.
I had what was basically a Breton cake topped with a big apple slice covered in vanilla ice cream and topped with a tuile cookie surrounded by salted butter caramel.

It was the best dessert we have had for the entire trip!!

We are back in the room and it's time for bed! We are exhausted!!!
Tomorrow, more from Dinan! Lots of stuff that we make at our shop! We can't wait!
Until then enjoy the pictures of Mont St-Michel!!!!!
