We woke up early this morning and left Paris and took the TGV train to Strasbourg well we were sort of sad to leave Paris, Strasbourg certainly charms it's visitors! Emily and I were immediately impressed with Strasbourg from the moment we left the train station. Oh, and by the way, have we mentioned how much we love the train in France?? We both sleep like babies on the train here! It really is one of our favorite parts of the trip! Back to Strasbourg, we are staying at a hotel, we are only here for one night so I decided to pick a hotel right across from the Cathedral and what a great move that was! The Strasbourg Cathedral is unreal! The spire was the tallest spire on a church in the world until the mid-1800s. Its pinkish and gigantic from the outside it looks so good from every angle. We got here just in time for the 12:30 show that their astronomical clock puts on every day. I posted a video of that clock in action, if you didn't see it check it out. Its long but what a marvel of engineering! It was originally made in the 1500s re-built in the 1700s and then A brilliant man made the guts of the clock you see today in the mid-1800s. It really was one of the first computers! I could go on and on about it but I won't bore you with the details I'll just say it keeps track of the sun, the moon, all of the stars, the days of the week and more! It even has a gear that corrects the change of speed of the earth around the sun at different times of the year! Incredible to think how somebody could do that with just a bunch of gears. And 150 years ago!! After that, we went back to our room, called our parents, rested for a few. Then we went for a walk around the city and saw some more really neat things while waiting for the restaurant we wanted to go to to open for dinner. We were looking for a place that would give us real Alsatian food. I did a lot of research at home and had a bunch of links to restaurants that would fit the bill. I had pretty much decided on one before we had even left America, as it turned out, that restaurant was right next-door to the hotel we're staying at! Basically right under the room that we're staying in. I think it was meant to be! We had real Alsatian food of course a bottle of great riesling wine. We had tart flambee and an onion tart for appetizers we had chicken in a Riesling sauce that we are going to be making at the store sometime. and a Roesti. It's basically a cheese and potato pancake or casserole. I got mine with speck, which is like German prosciutto and an egg I love everything with an egg on it! It was definitely one of our best meals of the trip if not the best and it was definitely our favorite restaurant, in a wine cellar with amazing ambience. Then we overdid it and Emily had a black forest cake and I had a dessert tart flambé with apples and cinnamon! While it was delicious, it was probably enough food for four people and my stomach feels like it has a full person in it, but it was darn good!! We went for a little walk after dinner to try to walk off the heavy meal we ate but it was so darn cold out that we couldn't walk too far. So, as I type this I'm laying in bed with what looks like a pregnant belly and it's not Emily's LOL!! We have really enjoyed our time in Strasbourg! We will be spending tomorrow morning here then leaving around noon for Colmar, which is very close to here, less than a half hour by train. We have a really nice apartment waiting for us there that we found on Airbnb in a half timbered house that just looks cute as can be. We are very excited because we have loved Strasbourg and everybody has told us if you like Strasbourg you'll like Colmar even more!! Thats a bold statement so we will let you know tomorrow. Have a wonderful day and we will have a wonderful evening and we will talk more tomorrow. Thanks for following us through our journeys! Without all of you, none of this would be possible! Thank you so much, we love you. Bon nuit
